Not a good start for blogging! So I changed my mind and today I'm showing you how to make rolled paper roses. Just in time for Mother's Day so maybe this little set back was supposed to happen.
You will need:
office weight paper in colors of your choosing(the stuff that goes in printers)
hot glue gun (or any other glue you want to use)
scissors
Wire stems (optional)
Pencil
Start by drawing a circle on the paper. It doesn't have to be perfectly round, the lines can be wavy. Frankly, some of my circles looked more like eggs than circles but it doesn't matter.
Cut the circles out and then cut them into spirals.
Start winding the paper tight at the skinnier outer end. Once you have wound it all the way, let go. At this point you can arrange it a little bigger or the way you would like it to look.
Add glue to the "fatter" inside end and set your paper roll down. Push gently to make sure all of the layers are in contact with the glue.
At this point you can glue them onto cards, presents, or attach to wreaths if you'd like. You can also add a wire stem. Cut the stem to about 6" in length. Bend the end a little and glue to the flower.
Draw a leaf on green paper and cut. Glue on the bottom of the rose covering where the stem attaches to the flower. You can glue flat or pinch it at the bottom to get more shape, whatever floats your boat.
If you make a bunch of these paper roses, they will look really cute in a vase. I made a dozen but forgot to take a PICTURE!! I packaged all but 3 to be mailed out to my mom before I realized I forgot to take a picture. ARRGGHH!! It has been that kind of a week.
So there you are. I didn't make a card this year, just paper roses in the colors my mom loves: blue and white. I hope you enjoy this! Happy Mother's Day!
Think about this too: you could use different mediums to make these. I immediately thought of felt because it's so easy to work with. Also, if you choose colored paper that's white on one side, make sure the colored side shows in your finished product! I.e. roll the white color inside. I made that mistake too.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like making the green leaves, leave them out. I almost don't like them but made them anyway. I curled them with a pencil starting at the tip knowing they won't make the long trip all curled. Just wanted to anyway :o)
Actually, if your colored paper is white on the underside, you must roll the color you desire to show on the inside of the flower. My blue roses had a white underside so just look at the picture and it'll make sense. Sorry to mislead you!
