Homemade butter
I am not trying to be a pioneer woman but ladies (and gents) you can easily make butter at home! We tried this at a church activity for the children and it was really fun.
Butter recipe:
2 cups (1 pint) heavy whipping cream, chilled
Pinch of salt
You will also need:
Chilled container with tight fitting lid
Chilled marble
Bowl
Strainer
Pour the cream into the container, add salt and shake shake shake. Your family can each take turns as you chant (optional of course but the little ones will like it):
Churn butter churn
churn butter churn
* is waiting at the gate
and he wants his butter cake
Churn butter churn
* insert the name of the person shaking the jar
The butter is done once you can't hear the marble any more but this may take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes. Put the strainer over the bowl and pour the butter into the strainer. The bowl will catch the buttermilk which you can eat or use in a recipe. The butter is now ready to go back into the container and into the refrigerator.
My kids made this butter at a Primary (church) activity. It is delicious but whiter than regular butter as you can see in the pictures.
